Question about reducer

When I bought my reducer for painting my bike.(first time painter) I purchased a fast urethane reducer #60 they also had available a 70med. and 85slow.
Do these numbers correspond to your ambeint painting temp? I'm painting in a shop where the temp is around 60 to 65. If not, what's the difference in reducers? Why would a fast reducer be better or more affective than a slow reducer?
Thanks for any help.

in 60-65 a fast reducer is correct.fast reducer cold .slow reducer warm. or any variation. this also has an effect on flow out.if you find your clear is going on dry and not flowing out.(orange peal)you can either go with a medium to slow it up a bit or even mix the two together.be warned though that the slower you go the more likely you are to get runs.practice on a test piece first to get it just rite.good luck.cyas

Since your a newb, when in doubt, go with a grade faster than you should....just to be safe. The normal rule is to use the 'correct' reducer for the temperature, but if it's 68 in the shop, I would go with fast. Even if it was 70, I would suggest fast. Anything below 75 go with fast even though the label says 60-70 would be fast and 70-80 would be medium. One other thing you have to consider is what time of day you are spraying. If you are up north and you start spraying at 4 o clock or so, of course the temperature will come crashing down. So you'll have wet paint and the temperature could end up in the 40's.

Thanks Taz, I'll order the next faster reducer.
What is the reasoning behind that being better for a newbe? Just curious.

You can lay it on wetter and have a little bit better control of it.
It will tack up quicker for you!
