Question on clearing a tri-coat 2 tone

I have a batwing style fairing that I am painting to match my bike which is a 2 tone candy red/black. The fairing is a one peice unit with a radio and speakers that will be mounted toward the driver,(inner of fairing). My question is if I do the base silver and most of the red candy on the inner one day can I put another light coat of candy the next day after shooting the outside then clearing it all? I know that the best way is to do it all at once but I am afraid that I will run out of time between the inner, outer, masking and shooting the black and applying the pinstripping. Would it be better to shoot the inner all the way to clear with the out side of the fairing masked and then the next day do the reverse and if so how would I make sure the clear on both sides totally sealed the seam? Would it work to shoot each side compleatly then scuff it all and clear on another day all togeather (ie make it a 3 day job)? I'm not a pro painter just a guy that likes to say I did it myself but I do want to do the best job on it I can.

I have read many of the posting here and feal I have learned a lot but I know there is much more I need to learn. Thanks for any help/advice I get.

Are you sure that is a one piece? I've never seen a one piece fairing with speakers. Is it a Hoppe, Dragonfly...? If so, these are 2 piece fairings. If you can take it apart, this would make it so much easier on you.

Anyway....I would suggest doing it all at once.
I would spray the inner fairing silver. The outer fairing in the silver/black two tone. Then I would spray the candy over everything. Including painting over the black. candy red will not effect the black hardly at all. You can try to just get the candy over the silver, then on the last couple of coats, go ahead and coat the complete black.

Then once you have the candy applied, clear all of it. Then we I would resand the next day, do the stripes. Then I would reclear.

I'm sure. It is made by Wide Open Custom plastics in Kansas. I took the day off work yesterday and got all my parts painted and striped. It was late when I got done but is is done. all I need to do now is wet sand the clear and buff. I think it came out good for an amateur. I did get a little heavy with the clear in a couple of spots and I have a couple of sags but I think they will sand out fine. When I get everything mounted i will post some pictures. I didn't read your post until today so I sprayed the silver then candy, masked and sprayed the black, then added the pinstripe tapes then cleared it all.

Well I finally got everything done. It has been quite a learning experience and I really appreacate all the help and info I got from this forum. You guys are very helpful. I had made a lot of dumb mistakes but I guess that might be the best way to learn NOT to make them again. I had painted very many years ago with enamals and once with lacquer but this is the first time with bc/cc and also the first time with a hvlp gun. I also had the fun of learning a tri coat system with my red. I got the fairing from Wide open custom plastics and the lowers are from a Harley that I modified to fit my engine guard. I know this has been long but I wanted to express my appreacation for the site and show what I have done.
Here is a link to my pictures. I hope it works.

Thanks again for the help.
