new to this, read the how to and trying to decide how much effort and time I want to put into it..

Just wondering if anyone has any rattle can pics - or if that is a waste, stary lookin for an airbrush?

I was thinking of something starting in bright either white or yellow, then fading orange to red with a dark blue stripe at the end of the flame

I need to take a good pic of my truck..

Paint is ok but not show quality. I use my truck on the rocks so although I don't want it to look like crap I don't want to put 60 hours into it and then destroy it

I am little new to this board and from what I have gathered is that I don't think you'll get much of a response about a rattle can job. Although, you can certainly do it. I remeber a long time ago I painted a Baja bug with 8 cans of primer and that was it.

I would just keep in mind that if your gonna do it the technically correct way, you need to clear the whole panel that you painted on to. For instance if flames run across the quarter panel and on to the door, both need to be completly clear coated

you are better off going with regular automotive paint, to tell you the truth. especially if you want a multiple color flame. but if it were my truck and i was doin the rattle can thing I would definitely go for some kick *** flat black tribal flames over the grey. buy the way nice truck. that bumper looks pretty bitchin.

Just a rattle can thought. The NAPA store here will put basically any automotive color you want into a rattle can. A catalyze paint such as most clears, might not work because I think they will start to cure once mixed. You might ask around though.

You might could use acrylic enamel for everything.

It generally cost more to have it put into a rattle can, but if you don't have the other equipment it might be something to consider.

I think your project is the perfect candidate for rattle can. I painted my motorcycle with Duplicolor can paint last year. It turned out fine but it is not very durable. Most can paint is lacquer based which by nature is soft. If you are just "flaming" over factory paint, it should be OK. It is definitely the cheaper way to go.

<font size="2" face=" Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">There are also pre-valve which your local paint store should have. Basically a spraycan connected to a bottle which you can fill up w/ paint. Not that large of a can so probably not ideal for a big job but another option that would work w/o using spraygun. Iv'e used them before and work pretty well.

Also new to this board but this is site is awesome for info on painting

Since you want a multi colored flame I would go rattle cans, then shoot the clear. The cost of buyin all those 1/2 pint minimums would chew you up, unless you can find smaller quantities, which I cant. Check out my rattlecan colorchanging flames. I shot the basecoat and clearcoat, but the flames were just a $13 can. It rocks! The chromillusion minimum was $187.50. Same paint. Good luck!
