Hi all

for a while now I have been painting a number of cycle frames with Rage primer and clear(available in the UK and Europe and its very good) and I have been using Auto Air for the colour/graphics. So far this has worked very well but I have a customer with several frames that he wants paint but he is insisting I use rattle can primer to save some money!! Will the rattle primer work as well with the auto air and clear coat.
If its going to cause problems or look plain crappy I'd rather turn the work away.

To be quite honest I would use the products I'm familiar with. If he is OK with no warrenty, then you could give one a try. Using unfamiliar products sucks, and I personally avoid it, if I can.

I agree with Austin. You can make him understand there's no guarranty on it but if it does go bad will he remember (or acknowledge) it or bad mouth you?You know what works and that's the price,if he'll have a bunch of work for you work out a deal on the materials to save him some $.There's a very true expression-you get what you pay for and one unhappy customer will hurt you more than 10 completely satisfied ones praising you.The unhappy one tells more people of the experience than the 10 satisfied ones.

Thanks Guys

In the end I decided to stick to my guns and told him I wouldnt use the rattle primer as I couldnt promise that the effect would be any good. So he's gone else where for the sake of a relatively small amount of cash and a job well done.

Personally this is fine with me as I dont want anything to damage the reputation I have worked hard to build up

Anyway he'll probably be back in a few months once the cheapo paint job starts to look like crap

Good choice.Just remember that when he comes back the price is more now to strip off the screwup and start over.Another expression I find true is you can pay me now or pay me more later.
