Rattle Cans are bad, Cheap Alternative

I read all the posts on how bad rattle cans are , but is there a cheap alternative. I have a ton of small parts that I want to paint for my bike, but I don't want a bad job done, and I just spent $3,000 on a Kameleon Paint Job, so is there a cheap alternative??

I was thinking of buying the Finishline 2 gun, renting a compressor and sticking with the House of Kolor brand paint for the parts (triple tree clamp, sliders, etc).

Any suggestions?

I take it the parts won't be Chamelion. It would be cheaper to go with single stage and easier to touch up a chip. You didn't hear me say this, but I think it's PPG that puts out a cheap line called Omni.A few people have told me it's really not bad stuff.I have used Rubber Seal's urethane clear and it surprised me.We used it on the rep's car about 7 years ago and it still looks great.Around here it's a traveling rep that sells it so you'd have to contact them to find out who deals in your area.Haven't used their base, just went over PPGs DBC with it.Please don't rattle can it,you have to much invested to cut corners unnecessarily. We want pix.

The Kameleon pic is below. I don't mind spending the money on a quality paint, I'll probablly stick with House of Kolor and paint it a pearl blue. But as far as equipment goes how to keep cost down???

Also, I have the Devilbiss Finish line 2 ordered, what size compressor will I need to get and how does it fit to the gun??

I have read and understand most of the Tech sheets from HOK but how do you strain the paint?

Enjoy the pic, more at my site www.savagesbeast.com and I will be posting a lot more.

Thanks

Sorry,I misunderstood. The Finishline is a good gun from what I hear, but I use the GFG model. You'll be fine though.Since you're doing small stuff a minimal compressor will be fine as long as you think you won't need more later.Resale value is a hard hit.If you can find a good price on a 5HP/30gal tank it will cover you and run most stuff for hobby purposes give or take. What you have to pay attention to is the CFM rating at 40lbs or whatever their rating close to that is to make sure it's close enough to run the gun.You can find steals at yard sales if the timing is right, but places like Home Depot or Lowes have great deals too.Look thru the classifieds too.I passed on a DeVilbiss 7.5hp80gal that had high cfm at Home Depot for $900.Not a $4500 Champion but it was a very good setup.Still kicking myself in the butt since this is what I wanted.Search around, the deals come more often than you think.Straining the paint just means running the paint thru a strainer as you dump it in the gun.The paint store should give you some when you ge the paint. They can be stingy so I ask for a few extra if I'm not at work.I'm a stickler for using a fresh one every time I refill and not use the same one for base or clear. They're too damn cheap to be stingy with.Oh,I like the color you picked.I see alot of the golds and flops that have colors that don't mix IMO like gold, blue and green-WTF is that about.I believe your colors should stay in the same family, but that's just me.Good luck and keep us posted how things go_Oh,if you can get a 2stage compressor for the price of a single stage, grab it.The 2stage will keep the tank full with less work and running.
