IF YOU HAVE A PICTURE OF WHAT YOU'D LIKE ON YOUR CAR KEEP IT CLOSE BY FOR REF. BUT, YES MOST PEOPLE FREE HAND TAPE THO' SOME WILL AFTER FREE HANDING ONE SIDE WILL USE NEWS PRINT SINCE IT IS FAURLY WIDE LAY IT OVER THE SIDE THEY'VE ALREADY DONE TAKE A PENCIL AND RUB WITH THE SIDE OF IT TO COPY THE PATTERN THEN USE A SPUR WHEEL TO MAKE SMALL HOLES IN THE PAPER TAPE IT TO THE OPP. SIDE AND USE A CHALK BAG TO PAT THE CHALK INTO THE HOLES THEN REMOVE AND YOU'VE GOT A LINE TO FOLLOW. ANY OTHER ?????'S ASK AWAY

I go freehand but you can use white chalk to sketch the idea on the car first. some people use chineese pencils. The kind you pull on the string to sharpen.

I freehand flames.Once I get an idea of how I want them I start laying.Leave an extra 6"-1' when you tear the tape and if you need to adjust it you have extra to play with and not waste that whole strip. You dont have to do it on all pieces, just the ones that something tells you might not be right until you get into it farther. On a bike I copy it as close as possible to keep them looking symetrical but on a car I just keep the sides similar using the same space and following body lines in a similar way.I believe flames aren't supposed to be symetrical (most of the time).

I just did my first flames and did them freehand with the tape. I spent 2 weeks and 3 notepads just practicing to get the flow. Also I let the tape sit out in the sun for a while it made much better turns that way.
