reclearing question

Need some advice. I painted a monte carlo ss, PPG (Shopline) Jet Black, Shopline 630 Clear with a Med Reducer. I sprayed it over 2k Primer without sealing and got craters everywhere. I washed the car with Dawn, wiped with Polycracker and chased, then did the wax and grease remover. I have a Devilbiss Camair system at one end of my hose and run a filter on the my Sata rp 3000. My question is can I slick the car out with maybe some 800 and reclear? I sprayed it Saturday 11/8, and don't have a heater, but I'm in South Mississippi.

You might be able to if the fisheyes are not that deep. You'll have to make sure that when you are sanding that the fisheyes get small enough that they do not leave and 'glossy' dots. You will need to remove them completely, If you don't you'll see small dimples in the new paint job. If you can do this without breaking the clear, then you should be able to get by without reclearing. If you do break through the clear, of course, you'll have to redo the base as well.

Even though you used all those chemicals to clean the surface, it still maybe something in the air. Do you have any oils or lubricant spraycans like WD-40 laying around. You may want to do a test panel approx 12 x 12 just to make sure you don't get any more fisheyes before you do the SS.

You might also have contaminents coming through the lines...even though you have the filter on the gun.

Take an adjustable blower and blow the end into a white tissue at a low pressure to see if you have 'dirty air'

Hope this helps!

:luck:

Thanks Taz, I've got 3 heavy coats of clear on there so hopefully it will work out. Thanks again! I'll let you know.
