Recoating times

I plan on spraying tomorrow using Omni Au with the Omni clear over it. The forecast is supposed to be about 80 with blue skies. Anyways, I am a bit confused about when to recoat. After I spray the first coat, should I wait until it is dry to the touch, or still tacky, but without being stringy? After that, I plan on adding a bit of metal flake to the clear. I was told to wait about 4-6 hours before clearing the Au, however they weren't sure because no one has ever asked before.
Thanks for any info,
Kyle

I take it the Au is single stage. If so there is a timeframe to clear it but lay the singlestage on as directed. If they say wait so long before clearing remember every 15 degrees hotter roughly cuts the times in 1/2 and doubles cooler.Put your flakes in the first coat and finish off with straight clear.Basecoat is the way to go with this unless you want the depth.

Okay, thanks for the help. Out of curiousity, what would happen if I missed that window and sprayed clear over. Would it not bond to the first step and peel off?

If you clear too fast it will usually wrinkle the color coats but if you wait too long you're correct, you could have an adhesion problem.I don't know Omni but usually singlestages will ask for around 6 hours before topcoating. There should be a 1-2hr window then that you can start clearing. The only way to be sure is find someone with a P-page (or tech sheet) on the AU.The store is supposed to have them for the products they sell or at least be able to get ahold of them fast.Pretty stupid of them not to have them on site if they don't know the answers.Remember the 15 minute rule or you'll be screwed-if they say 6hrs at 70 deg then at 85 it's only 3hrs,etc.
