Red to Black Paint Setup

Hi, I'm new to this forum as of a couple minutes ago, :).

I am attempting to paint my truck mainly black, however I would like it to have a custom paint job which is this:

Jet black normally, but when you apply heat, I want it to change to a candy apple red (vivid red color). I searched google multiple times and couldn't come up with anything on this color setup.

What colors do I need?

How do I paint my truck (what are the steps for this look?

Thanks,
Tim

I agree. That is also the only paint that changes from a black to another color when heat is applied

Hi Tim I don't want to spoil your thunder. But that paint doesn't work that well, and it will cost big $$$$. Moto Storm also makes that kind of paint to. But with the same degree of sucess. How bout black with some candy red graphics or flames. That will look killer. But just in case you want to go with your original idea. Have a look here.

Attached is a picture of my truck currently. It is the oem black. I was also wondering if there might be a black paint that has red metallic flake in it. Anyone know? Thanks.

Best thing to do would be to paint the truck in a black metallic, and then spray a couple coats of candy red over it. This will give the 'silver' metallics in the black basecoat, a red tint, this giving you your black with red metallic look

Not at all. If you take a look at this pic, this shows a black metallic coated with candy red. You can see that this looks black but has the red metallic look to it.

Pretty bad azz...The only thing I can think of is what nzgrip mentioned is the black and white with the candy over it. I would just be concerned when you sprayed the candy over the heat sensitive paint....but then again, I'm sure the base would still get the heat to do the color change...who knows. If you decide to contact the poster of the video, and find out what they used, please be sure and report back and let us know what you found out.
Thanks

How To Apply Eclipse Step 1. - Prep and Prime the surface as you would for any other paint job.
Step 2. - Apply your choice of basecolors (white will product the most dramatic effect).Step 3. - Reduce the Eclipse 2:1 with Urethane Reducer. (2 parts Eclipse : 1 part Reducer) Step 4. - Apply 2 to 3 coats until desired effect is achieved.Step 5. - Air dry 15 min.Step 6. -At this time you can either continue with Candies etc. or move on to the final clear.Step 7. -Topcoat with our recommended clearcoat (Sun Screen Clear) as this clear contains a very strong UV Blocker to insure long life of the Eclipse basecoat.

The big downside to the Eclipse would have to be the $429 per Quart price tag.

You could paint it black and put a hi-lite red pearl over it??

i think im gonna do the black to red paint setup, but i dont know when i will have all the money for the paint, as i am a full time college student. i do side jobs, computer repair, auto repair stuff, but it doesnt seem like that $ stays around here for long. it always seems like after i fix someone elses car and get paid, something breaks on my own car.
