Reducer Temp

I just got a new Devilbiss GFG, Plus, I guess you'de call it,Had a devilbiss conventional finishline both have 1.4 tips,I shot some clear and it came out like orangepeel from hell!I was useing med reducer(75-85)It got kinda cold on me about 60,i sprayed anyway. Was this caused because of too slow reducer or too heavy of application, because this gun really lays it on?I was just getting used to spraying clear pretty nice before I switched guns. The gun is not HVLP but, they call it "high efficency".Needless to say,my first spray with this gun was dissapointing.Help,Jim /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbutt.gif

Oh man did you screw up /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/foreheadslap.gif Just kidding buddy.Put the 1.3 in it and you might even want to try the 1.2 for scooter parts (I use the 1.3 all the time). The drop in temp should have let it flow out longer so I chalk it up to the large tip and the newness of the gun.I don't know why they give a 1.4 with that gun because it's useless for anything but the really thick stuff like the one coat clears.I'm also choked in just a little from wide open, between 1/16 and 1/8" from the trigger hitting the frame.I had to slow down my pass speed a little too so that bothered me at first but now I don't notice it and spraying with anything else for clear is strange. You'll love it after a couple sprays with it to get used to it.Oh,remember it's not an HVLP so don't do the close and fast approach if you did,I'm about 7 or 8" away from the piece (and I really think I'm pulling a little less than a true 50% overlap with this gun to tell you the truth but I can't say for sure).

PS.You're lucky it didn't let loose on you with the reducer that slow and that tip.I run 10+ degrees slow with PPG but the smaller tip helps in breaking it up finer,I did get some cool flow indicators when I tried the 1.4 tip. They say HOK won't tolerate the reducer that far off the temp. though.

Thanks Rex,I could swear my other gun has a 1.4 also.I'll check today.I'm doin the motorhome and useing dupont 7900 clear.I'm useing the 1.2 for the metalic base and per directions, the 1.4 for clear but,it does say for high solids clear, maybe the 7900 doesn't have that high solids.I'll try the 1.2 and the 1.3 and see how it does, thanks again,Jim
