Well' posted this last week, before the forum had problems, I guess it disappeared!
I have a couple jars of the old Murano Pearl, the stuff they haven't made in a LOOONG time. I was hoping to use it on a very special project I'm doing in the near future (hopefully!)
I was going to offer some to a friend whose 73 Riv I'm painting, and I wanted to do a spray out to show him how much better the old pearls looked than the new ones. I knoew tha pint had separated to a point, there's the pearl on the bottom, a jelled layer on top of that, and a thick liquid on top of all. Now, these pearls were meant as an additive, not a real paint, but I guess they mixed it in some sort of resin. or paint base, just for ease of use.
I tried scooping a bit of all 3 layers out of the jar, and put it in an airbrush jar, with a lid, with some HOK RU-310 reducer. I'm hoping to be alble to use the pearls in amodern carrier, like SG-100. Even after sitting for 4-5 days, and shaking it up quite a bit, the pearl platelets are still mostly clumped together in large pieces. Not separating well enough to mix and spray.
Anyone have any expereince with this stuff? I'm thinking that lacquer thinner might do a better job of separating/melting this additive. But I dont' want to waste too much of it, as it is impossible to find now a days.
It was produced by Mearl Corp. back in the late 50's and 60's, probably for the cosmetics industry. But packaged for use by custom painters back in the day.
Thanks!
