RM Lacquer Question

Hello all:

This is my first post here on the forum. I have a Pro Street 56 that we built way back in the '90's. We originally were going to shoot the car with Dupont ChromaSeries 2, but there was a mixing problem with one of the colors, that caused us to have to strip all the material and start over. A friend who was a custom painter offered to paint the car, and so he did with RM Lacquer.

Fast forward 20+ years, and I'm doing some touch up. I still have the RM product, and know how to mix the color, but I have no idea on what I need to mix the clear with. I have some RM Clearcoat 727, but there is no directions on mixing. Does this get mixed with lacquer thinner and what ratio? I also have a can that has 827 written on it. Is this something that would be mixed with the 727?

I appreciate any help here. Thank you.

BTW, here's the car.

Welcome!
Very sharp looking '56!

I haven't sprayed much lacquers, but I believe you just spray the base of course, then when you clear, you'll just mix the clear 1 to 1 with the appropriate temp thinner.
Use a good grade thinner, not a wash thinner.

If you plan on blending, over-reduce your clear (once you have the main area cleared) and 'work' the edges into the original paint job

You will know right away if you have reduced enough when you spray it. If it doesn't have enough thinner in it it will come out almost in strings. Some lacquers require up to 150% reduction. Also do not spray it if it is humid out as it will blush. Chopolds is really knowledgeable about lacquer he is where I have gotten a lot of my info from.

Thank you very much for the reply. I will be shooting some stuff later today, and I'll see how this works out.

Thanks again.
