Rookie ? on painting fiberglass

OK need the step by step on how to paint gelcoated fiberglass. Do I need to:
Just rought it up and paint?
Do I need an adhesion promoter?
Do I need to prime first?
Let me know.

Ill take a shot, I would sand with 180, clean it then shoot it with epoxy primer. After that dries hit it with 600 wet and make sure you dont break through the primer, just get it nice and smooth. Clean and your ready for base, clear.

Just make sure you wash it with dawn first then wipe it down with wax and grease remover to get any mold release off of it.

My aftermarket hood said to block it with 220 first. I had another hood that was really rough and used 80 grit on a DA though.
