Sanding base coat

OK. I'm almost embarrassed to ask such a dumb Question.
If I'm basing in black and want to tape off some flame,
can I clear over the ruffed up black or is intercoat required??
In other words--
Black,flame, clear...or
Black,intercoat, flame, clear.....

Good question. I'm rather new at Airbrushing but I thought you used intercoat clear to protect the graffics before the final clear coat.

Oh ya, forgot about that.
I just didn't know if the sand scratches or ruffness on the black base would show through the final clear.
I don't think it will but I'd better find out.

Brains not working today.:sillyme::sillyme:
I'll be using,
base black,
flames,
candie,
clear....

In that process, were do I need intercoat????

Any sand scratches or imperfections will most definitely show through the clear coat. If your black is fresh say less than 24 hrs. you should be able to apply your graffics then your intercoat to protect the graffics and then the clear. Before you do anything though please confirm that what I am saying is correct. I would hate like heck to see you ruin what is going to be one nice paint job.

people put the intercoat down so that if you mess up your flame and have some spray through they can fix it easily by sanding it off. but other than that, you don't need to. it just helps to do it for easy fixes.

look at your tech sheet b/c some bases shouldn't be sanded, but you should be ok.

also, black is pretty forgiving w/ scratches showing through. as long as your body lines are strait then you shouldn't worry too much about the scratches. as long as they aren't deeper than 400 grit or so.
