Am I reading the posts correctly, You guys sand your parts after they have been base coated and cleared with 600 before you tape out your flames or graphics? The next coats of clear covers the scratches where there isn't any flames?

Reef - Thats Right!

Some folks will base coat and rough that up with a scotchbrite pad - this works great with black base - and won't work with metallics because you'll scratch the tiny pallets of the reflective "metal" pieces. For metallics or lighter opaque bases you can use Intercoat Clear which is a colorless paint (looks just like final clear) to cover your bases or art so you don't damage it. Whether you final clear before art or after your base is down is up to the individual painter. But if you do, all you have to do is sand it down with 600 or higher and when you shoot more clear over it, it will eliminate all the sanding scratches by filling them in. I've seen clear swallow up dust particles and fabric lint and only leave a "nib" in the clear that can be color sanded and buffed right out ---- Bones!~
