sandro chia art car

i would like to paint my car in the style of Sandro Chia or better in the way he painted
a bmw in 1992.
90_chia.jpg
my question is what sort of paint should i use to achieve the best results.
and how many coats of clear coat would it take for a perfect finish?
i don't want a cheap look. i don't have an old beat up car to paint this on.
so i like the result to be perfect.
any help?

wow...a ton of work. As far as how many clearcoats you need, Once you get all the work done, then I would say 5 coats would be plenty.
You can use an interclear to protect your coats. Looks like you would be able to just keep doing the work, then just clearing it.
You may need to spray about 3-5 coats of clear, then resand it and then reclear again. This depends on how thick the lines and work are.

hi taz
i am not really sure what i was thinking when i came up with that project.
but it would def be an eye popper, either way. my girlfriend loves it.
and i think it would actually be good for my biz. (i have a car detailing co. and that way i could adversize my car not just at car shows, but at art shows as well)
i am going to go with what you suggested on the clear coat

i was thinking of getting
one gallon of supergloss jet black
one quart of emerald green
one quart of blue
one quart or red
a quart or yellow
and two quarts of arctic white
do you think tha would be enough to do the work with?
the car is silver. however, the vehicle the artist used was white.
i don't think it would be a problem ,since most the car would be covered
anyway, but what do you thing about it?
i never did anything like this before. and most of the things i find online are for spraying art on cars (like flames and such)
or spraying some funky pattern on a crapp car...
i would love sot get some insight on some hints when it comes to using a car as a canvas.:speedy:
sincerely

Michael,
I'm assuming that your current paint job is in perfect condition. If you have any chips, pits or scratches, you should take care of them first.
I think using silver as a base would be fine.

I don't think you will need a gallon of black. Probably a quart should be plenty. You'll need a gallon of clear though. Maybe 1 1/2 gallons.

I can't give you too many tips since I haven't done this type work. In fact, it's the first time I've seen something like that.

Keep us posted on the progress!

****, a lot of work there. Looking good!

Make sure you put your first coat of clear on medium wet, or even just a tack coat, just to make sure that you don't have any wrinkling or other weird problems. Let this first coat sit for about 10 minutes, then if you don't seen any problems start laying it on heavy!

it almost has a folk art look to it,but you really pulled it off. Very nice work, can't imagine the amount of work and time you put into it. Reminds me of the John Lennon Rolls Royce. Pretty cool.

i have to get her wet sanded now.
and then a few more coats of clear put on, there where a few fisheyes
and some bumps of the brush strokes are still visible. but at least it's protected now

I have to commend you...I don't think I'd have the patience to do that!!!

You did a great job! Didn't take you long once you got rolling.

Once you get that clear 'flat', everything will have more depth!

Like to help you, but a slow year this year. Good luck to you though! You may want to try the place that sold you the paint.
