Scott, I have questions about masking

After laying out the design with vynal tape, should I mask over the vynal tape and then cut on the vynal tape to remoce the unwanted tape? I am confused because the end of tape is square and many designs come to a point. Also if you cut off the unwanted tape, do you cut down the middle of the vynal tape or cut on the inner edge??Or is there a completely better way of doing this that wont involve cutting the tape. Thanks!

I understood about 15% of your post, but what I did understand is you are having problems masking. Are you masking flames or grafix? Anyways, if I am masking flames, I lay out the flames in 1/16" or 1/8" fineline tape, then go back with 3/4" tape and tape around the vinyl tape...it takes a bit of practice to get the 3/4" to fold and tuck to make convex corners, but it will do it. Then, I either use transfer-rite, 2" or 4" masking tape to cover the rest of the work area. Some cutting is requried, but not very much, and the cutting should not be anywhere near the flames (you should end up with a line of vinyl, then a 3/4" buffer with the 3/4" masking tape, then whatever you want to cover the rest of the non-painted area with).
