Scratches

Is there a good way to tell if you have all the scratches out after you have sanded with 2000? After I buff I can still see some scratches so I sand again and buff and see less scratches and so on.

After i wet sand i wipe the piece down and blow it dry. I look for placed my sandpaper didn't dull. If there are craters or grooves that are not dull those are spots where scratches remain.

I ran across something that might help quite by accident. I had finished polishing a help I had painted and it was in the garage. That night the power went out and I had little headband flashlight that I was wearing to get around. I walked past the helmet and tons of scratches showed up on what earlier had appeared to be a nicely polished helmet. You may give that a shot.
