I saw a program on the discovery. channel They painted some bike parts and used what appeared to be a thin sheet of masking tape/paper and then trimmed it with a razor,, were can you get this film or very thin tape?

It's probably Automask. You can get it at coastairbrush.com or your local sign shop, ask for transfer paper. It's used for transfering vinyl graphics to vehicles. It's what I use and have had no problems with it. It comes in a variety of widths.

Hey,
I use Transferite, which is just like what DDG described. I ordered mine from www.ameriban.com, no online ordering but just call the toll free number and tell the gal you need a roll of Transferite and ask her what widths it comes in (cuz I forget). The roll I got is 8.5" wide, and it cost like $28.
That place has warehouses all over, so you can have it at your door in a day or two. Great stuff, saves a ton of time on masking

There are several types of mask. Gerber mask is availalbe at sign shops in two tack levels with 2 being stickier. As long as you're on a reasonable flat surface you can apply it and trim it all day long. The other stuff I use is Grip mask from tubelite. It sprays on, hardens like a thin piece of laytex, then you trim it. The advantage is it will go over curves and complex designs.

For masking, the best/cheapest thing to use is clear shelf paper. You can get it at WalMart.
