Ignore my other videos this is kinda a troll channel lol.

I did sand it a bit with 1500 grit and I'm not sure if I should go deeper into it or not.

You said you painted it with rustoleum Im not sure you can buff rustoleum paint . Did you use a rustoleum Clear over top of it ?

I would sand the whole panel with like 800 grit wet that will take all the orange peel out and give you a nice and flat surface to paint over . Respray your panel and it should come out smoother. What type of gun are you using, air pressure ? Distance from Panel, speed of spraying ? these are all factors in how much orange peel you will have to begin with.
I have no experience with rustoleum all my suggestions are based off of base clear paint.

Can someone explain to me why a Custom Paint Forum , has questions pertaining to rustoleum . I never new rustoleum made custom paint . I thought this forum would be about custom paint ........pearls ,flakes , multi color paint , marbelizing , the list goes on . It just really takes away from custom paint . Hell all the cars I built and painted over the 30 years never had rustoleum on ANY part of them . The cars I see at shows , cruises , etc aren't painted with rustoleum . However it keeps coming up here . Right Now I am flaming a set of Harley tanks with HOK , not rustoleum !

First all it's scapegoat not scapegot . It's also Custom Paint Forums , not Why can't I paint with rustoleum and it doesn't look like custom paint . I didn't take a shot at you , I am tired of seeing post about rustoleum . Next we'll see somebody post that the Home Depot paint doesn't match the fender .

Tommy, when you wetsand, you'll need to get ALL orange peel and shine off of it. You'll need about 1500 (maybe even start with 1000 grit). Keep in mind, the more orange peel you put into the paint, the more you will need to wetsand. If you have a lot of peel, then of course you'll be removing a lot of the paint. So the slicker you put on the paint, the better.
Then when you buff. You will have to use a machine buffer and a good grade compound (not polish). You'll see this will bring back the shine. Hand polishing will not do it.

Rustoleum, though it is 'paint' is not the best for automotive use since it's considered a topcoat or final coat and it has no hardener.
Granted today's basecoats don't have any hardeners in them either, but these are intended to have a catalyzed clearcoat over the top of the base.

@Scapegoat, Actually, the forum he posted it in is "General Auto/Motorcycle Painting" which really just has to do with 'painting' (not what type paints you use).
There is a 'custom painting' forum on this site though.
The site name is "Custom Paint Forum" (no s).

Just like when you go to an Airbrush forum. You'd expect all posts to be about airbrushing, but I've seen general painting, bodywork, pinstriping posts on "airbrush" forums.
Or like Home Depot, well...You would think by their name, they would sell homes. They don't sell "homes". They just sell materials that can be used around the home.

dude, chill out. the man needs some assistance and thats what we're here for. if ya dont like the thread dont read it.

now, tommy, did you follow the advise from the previous threads ya got or did ya roll on rustoleum? any clearcoat? paint cleaner wont do much to bring the shine back. if ya wanna go from where you are, wipe down the panel with wax and grease remover, WET sand with 1000 grit, and apply clearcoat. yer gonna need a lot of coats from a rattle can as its thinner. take the can and put it in some hot water (NOT boiling hot!!) and let the can warm up. it'll thin the paint out and build up some pressure to make spraying easier.

but here's what i'd do: sand off all the paint to bare metal. start with this in grey

let it dry as the directions say

spray a few coats of this, just enought o cover and dont pile it on:

follow directions on can. let it dry the length of time it says on can. go to this, apply 4 or 5 coats of it:

when spraying the black and clear, warm up the cans in some hot water. it will help em lay down smoother, but make sure to wipe off the water from the cans b4 you go to use em or get water drops on the car.

now, leave it alone for a week. dont look at it and dont touch it. then determine if you really want to do any more to it.
