single stage/ CC

Hello,

I applied single stage paint and decided to CC. The paint company states waiting at least 24 hours before applying the CC.

My question is what is the difference between the clear that I have and clears that need to be applied within 24 hours.

So technically I can wait months before applying the CC, do I need to scuff the single stage for it to properly bond?

:sillyme:Thanks in advance

It's not the clear that is different, it is the base. A single stage is a paint that does not need clearcoated. When you use a 'true' basecoat, this dries 'dull' and has a special binder that makes it so the clear and the base adhere correctly. If you wait more than the allotted time, that binder no longer works properly.

You can clear over a single stage enamel without waiting. Spraying over a 'wet' metallic color is a little tricky. Solid colors are no problem.

If you let the single stage dry, then you will need to sand it so the clearcoat will adhere.
Sanding a single stage solid color is no problem.
You may have a problem with a single stage metallic though. When you sand and clear, you will probably end up with a problem seeing scratches though the clear. This is because your sandpaper will cut into the actual metallics in the paint.
