Has anyone used a vinyle sticker as a stencil?
I have a freind whose graphic art shop has a printer that cuts out stickers using a computer. Anything I can scan into the computer he can make.

Yeah, you can use that. Just make sure the frisket film/transfer masking paper sticks good enough to prevent mistapes, and not so good that you can't get it off relatively easily. Preferrably it should go on and come off like masking tape. I use a type of mask that works great for doing lettering and things like that, but you could do any design with the transfer mask paper. To be on the safe side, shoot a couple coats of intercoat clear after your basecoat so you have a way of removing any mistapes that you get.

Don't use a regular sticker, you will regret it. All the glue will want to stick and not come off without a solvent, then you could easily screw up all your hard work. Most sign shops have a stencil material "gerber mask" is one popular brand, but either way make sure they understand what your doing, and that you need a paintable mask that is will remove without leaving adheasive behind.

I realize this subject is old but I wanted to add my 2 cents.

I have done this trick before for friends sport bikes. I would mask the whole par tot be painted, put the vinyl decal on the masking tape, then just cut it out with an exacto and peel the area to be painted back up. you are now ready to paint.

Hope this helps someone.
