Strained the paint but still lots of junk in it

Tried a color sample from TPC Global's Kustom shop line (Orange Firemist metallic). Strained it with the same fine strainers I use with PPG and Dupont solid colors. Sprayed a test piece and could not believe how much junk was in the paint. Do I need a finer strainer for the metallic or is the tpc paint just plain dirty junk?

you sure its not the metallic thats in the paint or is this after shooting a test panel? and did you mix the paint good?

mixed it real good, its almost like fine strings about an 1/16 inch long. Came out of the gun while spraying the test panel. gun was cleaned prior to shooting the sample. just for fun I tried it again after cleaning the gun and the same results. Same gun I use all the time on solid colors and this has never happened before.

it's sounding like a few things. first, what gun ya using? the nozzle could be pluggered up. what ya got gor a compressor/ filtration set up? what psi's ya shootin at? where do ya have the fluid control set? wheres the fan pattern set? whats the temp yer shootin in?

gun is a devilbis, 1.3 tip. compressor has a moisture trap at the tank and I use a filter at the gun. psi at the gun regulator is set at 21 (per manufacture spec). fluid control and fan size is set to shoot a 6" fan at about 8" from panel with even oval pattern. temp in the booth is 65-70 depending on how long the exhaust fan has been running.

I sprayed vivid black and chrome yellow yesterday and had no problems. Gun is taken down and thoroughly cleaned after use and fresh lacq thinner shot through before loading the next color.

this particular paint I shot was a 4oz sample to see if I liked the color for a future project and I am just wondering if anyone else has had an experience like this with tpc paint. If the product is this dirty I'm going to stay away from this brand.

I'll try to post a pick of the sample card I shot

thanks for the help

Did you mix another brand of reducer or something like that?

I'm not familiar with the Kustom line though.

No, the sample I bought was a ready to spray 4oz. I'm going to get some extra fine strainers and give it a try again. I've used their products a few times with success but if their metallics are this dirty I'll stick to ppg or dupont

Very weird. Possibly just bad paint? Haven't seen anything like that for quite a while.

Its already reduced 2:1 with KR70 reducer. http://www.tcpglobal.com/kustomshop/itemdetail.aspx?itemno=KUS+UMB-8008-4Z. I'm now convinced their products are just poor quality. Bought some of their clear and it is soft as butter. Sprayed 2 coats, waited 24 hours wet sanded with 2000, compounded with 3m white compounding pad and 3m compound, it removed the sanding scratches fine but I cant seem to get the swirl marks out. Black foam pad and maguires swirl mark remover and the sample piece shines great but still full of swirl marks. The sample even shows the fine scratches from the micro fiber towel i use to wipe off the swirl remover by hand.

could be that the clear needs to cure. after shooting clear, in 70 ish degree temps, i wait at least 3 days to color sand and buff. even after that i like to see the vehicle back in about 2-3 months to rebuff.
