I'm realy in to the swade look and I've got this 58 short box ford I want flat black as soon as the lid comes down, my question is would a few coats of ppg's dbc-500 work as a top coat, it gives it a nice flat look but I'm not sure of the durability of it.can a hardner be added to it? I want to do a flame lay out but I want them flat also and barried at the same time

Alot of guys use a single stage urethane with a flattening agent mixed in. Some guys use clear with flattener mixed in over black BC.
I tried using PPG DPLF90 primer on my truck, it looked good for a while but started to get chalky after a couple months.

I was afraid of that, I've also heard that a plain epoxi primer will streak from the rain after a wile...any thuth?

The epoxy will streak but it's not from the rain. One problem is in an uneven overlap while spraying,so the thinner spots wear faster. The big thing is the air pattern that flows over the car like watching the wind tunnel testing, there's debris in the air so wherever the most airflow is contacting the surface is where it wears the most.My old mustang was left in black DP and the roof went to hell in a pattern on each side of the roof.If you want the old school look don't play with flatners and forget the DBC500(it'll go to hell from the weather real fast-I won't even use it on jambs for the final finish even though PPG says you can).Use their Flexed-n-flat clear,I think its # is 2060 but not sure, the name is correct though.I've been wanting to do an old school scooter in it but haven't had the chance. You can mix it with topcoat clear to pull it up to an eggshell and semigloss which is a bit more durable than straight out of the can.Using flattner in topcoat clear or singlestage usually makes them chalk out alot faster.Just remember if you get any dirt in it there's no buffing it out, what you see after it dries is what you get.

Didn't really streak but it waterspotted like crazy.
I've also heard about a certain John Deere paint that some guys use, it's a semigloss black, and is pretty cheap.

I know a guy who painted a '62 T-Bird with some brown stuff from JC Whitney. This was a long time ago but it looked like felt, felt like felt (must be felt). I don't have one of their catalogs so I can't say if the stuff is still being made. Oh yea, one thing, the car sat about 2 inches lower after a good rain! Guess the finish soaked up a few drops.
