Symmetry help needed

Hey guys- I thought I was smarter than this- I tried to work it out myself but I am in need of assistance.

I am in the process of painting a graphic that follows the contours on my front fender. The graphic will be about 1" wide. As you know if you are off by an eigth of an inch it can really show. My question is: Is there a formula or trick to making the perfect symmetry? I have tried several things such as placing a square on the side of the fender and measuring to the tape. Of course the side of the Harley doesn't really follow a 90 degree angle.

Any tips?

Hey C,
You want to be sure you get your first line in the same exact location as the other. This is the key. Then I normally guess for the other line, and readjust if necessary. In you case, once you get the first line done, possibly run a 3/4" piece of masking tape, along with a piece of 1/4" masking tape butted up to the 3/4". The do the other side of your line. Do lot's of measuring on the first line to make sure it's correct. If this is off, it throws everything else off.
