Tank Bondo

I know that some painters completely bondo a motorcycle tank before paint. I hear this is done to make the surface smooth. Does anyone know how this is done and what are the materials needed? I am new to the Flame Board so if I'm not doing this right help me.

Welcome to the board. Most of the time parts that are skimcoated with mud are aftermarket pieces. Most factory pieces are pretty decent unless you want it 'perfect'.Either way it's a bit of work. Before I start rambling again what are you doing?

I have a friend who put together a kit bike and he wants me to do the painting. I have done several paint jobs but have never been asked to bondo first

I used Everlast glaze,It has alum. dust instead of talc and is very flowable.the color is determined by the color of hardener you use, blue, red, green whatever.you can also build a little if you have to.it cures in about 20 minutes and sands like drywall mud, very easy! They make a regular filler also but it's thicker and doesn't flow as well.Just make sure you epoxy the tank first.Lay your mud then reprime.
