On your first coat of clear, you will see still see hints of the tape residue. After a couple of coats this will go away. I usually just put a light coat of clear as my first coat. Then put on the coats after this, normal.
I use PPG "Spirit Wipe" (837), before clearing. This helps clean the surface.
