taping a design questions

Hi All,

I am having a bad time thinking about "How To", and need a little help......

I am attempting to make a flag like design on my tank, with wavey stripes....... I have 3-M tape that bends corners, and masking tape that won't.

I bought 2 books for body and paint work, but they don't say squat about taping...... This is a design, not a window... So is it standard to use an exacto knife to trim masking tape to 3-m plastic tape..... The 3-m is what you outline flames with, and blue.......Mac

Lay out your design with the blue fineline, then mask it off with the regular tape.Anywhere the masking tape overruns the fineline trim it off,but make your cut in the middle of the fineline.Don't cut through the fineline or you'll see it in the paint.

Thanks Rex. I think there will be about 6 shade lines making 6 folds, some up and some down..... The flag will look sort of checkerboard and busy that way.... I need the busy to hide the flaws.LOL Oh well..

I get where to cut now. I can handle a knife pretty well, but did not understand where to cut, but do now, thanks to you..

I have a tuff time seeing things that are not there...... beside what other thing go wrong....dust, and reactions.... I think this will work out good for a rattle can job.
The chromealite helped blend in the badges dents better than any other bondo I ever tried to use. usually I have sanded and sanded too deep trying to get a "Fair" surface, and alway got a line where bondo and metal meet.... The store guy handed it to me....and I did not know it from bondo...Mac
