Taping length of time

Does ayone know how long you can or should leave a taped and masked gas tank for before applying paint to it? Reason I am asking is I am on a painting course at college and I attend it once a week, I would like to be able to mask off a flames design on the tank at home then shoot it at college. If I masked it up say on Tuesday would it still be ok to paint on the Following Monday?

Yes it'll be ok. I taped out my tank and fenders a week in advance and they came out perfect. No mis-tapes or bleeds to fix.

Thanks for that, was hoping a week would be ok. Is this with 3M fineline tape?

I use the green 3M 233+ paper type tape. I don't think the blue plastic tape would last a week, but I could be wrong. The green will hold up for that long though.

Thankyou for the advice given Randy, I find this site so informative and very inspirational, so much so that I am going to have a go with my own Harley after a bit of practice on some old harley tanks I have. Great site keep it up guys.

along this same line, how long do you wait after painting to pull the tape off? I am new to paiting and trial and error are going a long way to help but knowing before the mistakes are good too. Thanks
