Taping & scuffing flame edge

Alot of good info on this site. I'm going to paint a bike with HOC burple and flame with a silver pearl metal flake with a red outline. My ? is after taping the flames out should I put a white base down before I shoot the silver for the flames or not worry about the silver covering the burple, and also after I shoot the red for the outline how can I scuff the (center) of the flame for the silver and get close enough to the tape at the out line because after I shoot the red I'll have to wait for it to dry before I can tape the outline ... at least I think I'll have to do it in that order. And after all is done and tape is removed and I have an edge should I color sand the flames to remove the edge or is that a BIG no no.I know you can clear the whole job and block it and reclear to get a slick job .. but I've seen jobs that were really slick but the flames had an edge that could be seen but not felt. Thanks in advance.
