I was wondering what technique everyone uses to copy one side to the other(other than by eye). in order to make one side identical to the other. I am useing the o'l paper flip, and it's not giveing me the result i want.is there a better way to do this? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif

How are you doing the flip trick? The best way for me is to hang my paper over the flamed side, make a few referance points,( mirrors, door lines , what evers there.) Then rub the paper with the flames taped out under it with a dark crayon, Move the tracing to a hard surface ( I have an old table top I covered in bed-liner that works great for this, its just soft enough to let the wheel cut the paper) and run a good pounce wheel along one side of the flame ( inside or out side of the tape rubbing) then transfer the paper to the other side, line up the marks and run a piece of chalk along the pounce line. If I ran the wheel along the inside of my rubbing then I'll tape along the outside edge of the chalk line. The hardest part is not rubbing off the chalk wile you tape the flames.

Does anyone ever have problem with the chalk dust not letting the tape stick?

I don't have a pounce wheel, so i just use the flat side of chalk and rub this along the tape to get the copy, then i flip it and rub the back side down and i have my chalk outline. this is pretty messy though and the pounce wheel sounds alot better. as for the chalk interfearing with the tape sticking, i found that if you re draw the lines of the flames, then lightly dust the chalk away, there's no interference with the tape. just don't wipe too hard or you will remove all the lines and you won't be able to see where you are going.
how do you deal with the rounded surfaces. i can never get a good traceing off the rounded surfaces and have to waste time copying the seccond side by eye

This is crude but works on high crown areas if you want a duplicate.Cut the paper so it'll lay flat and tape it together with 3/4" masking tape or thinner if you have it.Do the crayon/market trick to pounce it but either don't go over the tape or freehand it.Once you chalk it chalk it just fill in the missing area,it's small so nobody will know.If it's one of those anal people that will actually pick something like that out they're someone you don't want to deal with period, doing the job for free wouldn't please them.
