Just want to say thanks for the help and ideas from the board. Took a pic of my front fender. This was my fifth thing I have ever painted and definiatly the hardest. Candys pearls and flames. First time I have ever drawn any art work. Pretty happy over all.

What do you guys think?

Thanks guys!

Paint is HOK Kandy Oriental Blue over HOK Orion Silver base. Layed down the base silver then came back with 4 coat of the kandy blue. Then one coat of clear for sanding and general screw up protection. Taped off my flames and sprayed 2 more coats of kandy blue then one coat of clear with white pearl mixed in. Unmasked and sprayed 3 coats of clear. Sanded smooth.

One cool extra I got which did not show up in the pic is a fine pin stripe around the flames. Got it by semi accident. Heres how: When sanding my 3 coats of clear I barely got into the pearl on an edge of flame creating a very thin pin stripe effect on the edge of the flame. I guess it stayed thin because the paint ramps up to the tape at the edge of the flame and that is all that I sanded. All it did was take the last layer of pearl and clear off the edge of the flame. After seeing that I liked the look so I carefully sanded around the edges of all the flames. Turned out to be so thin and consistent that it looks like the best pin stripe job I had ever seen. You have to see it to appreciate it!

Three more coats of clear and a little buffing and I was a very happy camper. One word of caution kandys are kinda hard to paint because if you make a mistake there is nothing to cover it up. I very lightly sanded the base color (silver) in a couple of spots and if you look close you can tell. The idiot part for me is they tell you not to sand the base. Thank God I barley sanded in just a couple of small areas so if you dont know its /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/agree.gif there you probably would not see it.

Yeah, that's a pisser but I figured someone would figure it out /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gifAlthough it's the sign of screwing up and putting the paint on too wet I do like the subtle dark outline on these types of ghostings,it gives something to pull your eye in to and lots of people, even in the industry for some reason, ask how you got such a fine even stripe.Oh well,I'll have to do something else the wrong way now to create somthing new /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/foreheadslap.gif
