what are the best color combinations for making a graphic or a flame look like it is metal or chrome? Does House of Color make a color or can I use a basic PPG silver with the proper accent colors with it? Any info would be helpful. Thank you

The metal look can be had with a light grey, maybe adding the finest metalic to white and a little black. The white will muddy out the silver so you don't get pure metallic and adjust the color with black and maybe a hint of blue. Can't help you on the chrome look, blue and white are used for highlights but I don't know what the base color is.

You can make a convincing chrome with just white, black, and some blue. If you study a chrome bumper in the sunlight, essentially what you can see are different tones of gray and black with some blue reflected from the sky. Take a picture of something chrome and study it as a 2 dimensional picture and you should see what I'm talking about. I often photograph something I want to airbrush in order to study how just different shades of one color make the object appear to be 3 dimensional.

Osh, this is really cool. My wife has a crank out windshield on her IHC and she wanted to have the frame chromed, but it is too pitted. I think I will try this.

Thanks

If you're looking to put a metallic/chrome or brushed
aluminum look on a tank graphic, you could get metalik vinyl
from a sign shop. The material is pretty thin. you could either cut your shape and stick it to surface as a base for your graphic, or just lay done a chunk of it and build your graphic around it Looks cool, and it is truly metalic.
The only problem is aside from the coats of sg100,
you'll probably need a couple of clear/sand/clear/sand steps to smmoth everything out

Just bought and sprayed the chrome paint. I also candied over it...nice effect!!!
Expensive. Sure it'll take practice to get perfect.

Was it the stuff from Nate?

If so, how did you apply it. I am not really thrilled with the results as chrome, but I think that the application process may be my problem......
