What is the max time allowed to clear over base. By the time I lay out flames and spray them could be 24 hr to 36 hr period.

It depends on the brand. Check the tech sheets for the brand that you’re using. Typically you’re safe under 12 hours. If I know it’s going to be a more then 12 hours before I can get to it I just plan to scuff up the surface before taping off my flames so I know that the clear will byte, as long as it’s a solid color. If it’s a metallic or candy base I would shoot the base then apply a couple of coats of inter clear so I can scuff it with out messing up the project. Then before taping I scuff the surface with a Scott Brite. You can use a inter clear for the solid as well if its going to be a couple of days and you don’t want to chance contaminating the color. Personally I always use the inter clear for this type of situation so I don’t have to worry about messing up the color even if it is a solid.

Most have a time limit of 24hr at 70 degrees.Every 15 degrees+/- decreases/increases dry time by 50%-in general.Contact the paint store and the tech sheets, they both should have the answer.
