Time to buff.

Ok, so my paint job is complete with the exception of the final sanding and buffing. I would appreciate any suggestions on buffing and sanding, as I do have some orange peel, but think it will clean up pretty easily. I am concerned about buffing too much. I painted my roadking parts black with candy red flames. Black paint by PPG, candy by SEMS. Looks pretty good thanks to the help gained at this site. Any comments will be appreciated.

If your edges on the flames are quite thick, and you would like to knock them down nice and flat, your best bet is to DA (dual action sander)your parts back down with 600 grit, then reclear the parts *then* buff them. I only mention this because you sprayed the flames with candy apple which gets quite thick.

If you feel you are allright to go ahead and buff, wetsand with 1500 grit (make sure you use a soft block on the flame edges to help knock them down), then buff with a 3M white waffle pad and some 5396 compound(I think that is the part # - Finesse III), then go over that with a black waffle pad with some foam glaze.

After you buff, hand glaze the parts.

Hopefully you put enough clear to do either one of the above options.

Added--If you decide to use 600 DA, stay away from the edges. 600 will go through very easily. Just do the main areas, then you can gray scotchbrite the rest before reclearing-thanks Big Chicken.

Carefull with that DA on those nice round motorcycle parts. I would recommend hand block sanding the whole bike with 600 or 800. Unless you poured on the clear you are bound to cut through if you want that flat smooth as glass finish. Clear it again you will be happier with the results.
