Too much pressure...

Hello All-

I'm using a DeVilbiss GTi and I've got 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5 tips. I've got a regulator on the end of the gun but as soon as I pull the trigger, the pressure drop substantially and won't stay at the 35psi recommended inlet pressure. I've painted a few bikes and helmets and they've all come out great.

My questions is (before I pony up for a big compressor) can you get too much pressure thru an HVLP? I'm wondering if I up the compressor output settings to 45+ psi what will that do? The compressor doesn't kick on right away when I start spraying so I'm wondering if I've got too much hose or too thin of hose? It's not 'broke' so I should just keep painting, but I'd like to know....

TIA-Stretch

Looks like it's time to get a new compressor so I'm doing things right. Is everyone on here using standard hoses or something special that you can't get from the local hardware store? I'll have to hook the gun up to the compressor with a short hose and see if it'll even push that much air. It's a Craftsman unit and I'm doubting it.

Thanks-Stretch

Stretch,I wouldn't use anything less than 3/8 hose,You can buy the cheapie already made up ones but, they retain memory real bad. Also,if you can find a large air tank to hook into your's,for some extra volume, that helps too.I burned up my 60 gallon last week but,i'm still useing the tank with my baby compressor,I just sprayed a big old Monte without any problems.

It's usually the same anywhere, just differant quality, just ask for 3/8 hose to be used as airhose.I'm sure they have differant PSI ratings but basically the same.Sears probably sells some decent made up hoses.

most of the hoses you will find at the hardware / home depot are1/4" type best to go to a place that deals in air equipt. auto? paint- store. get 3/8" hoses and 3/8" fitting also no sense to get more air and choke it down at the fitting. just make sure your fitting config matches what you are using on you gun,etc as there are many different types i use air equip in construction and recen tly used my roofers air hose compressor, etc which was 3/8" versus my 1/4' stuff big difference the problem when i went to convert could not find the proper fittings in 3/8' home depot lowes no good finally with some luck found some in local butwell stocked auto parts store if no hurry try on line and buy everything you need from gun out so it will all fit in shoty what i have seen 1/4" is the norm for what most places stock good luck
