Hi guys. Brand new newbie here and have absolutely no idea of what I'm wanting to do so I'll be full of future dumb basis questions. I have and older truck (18 wheeler) I want to paint in some sort of enamal as opposed to expense polyurethane. The paint is white with a blue bottom and the white is so dead it runs down over the blue and hardly has any shine. Basic cheap white paint used by the manufacturer. Blue has been added and has some shine to it. Parts of paint are peeling off revealing a lighter blue color underneath. So first will be sanding and I have no idea at all how to start. So here goes..... What kind of air sanders and models do I need? Will the Kobalt models from Lowe's work to start? What grit sandpaper to start with and how do I know when to go to a finer grit? The truck has a fiberglass hood and side airflow fairings and roof cap. The cab and sides of the body (sleeper) are aluminum huck bolted to frame supports. So I'll be working with 2 different surfaces which might not even make any difference, for all I know. Have been told some sort of acylic enamal is best and can be painted over old paint without primer if properly sanded. So how about I just start with the sanding. Sorry for such basic questions, but I've bought a couple books on line but they all seem to assume I do more than I do. Tks, Weezil (will post a pic if the forum allows it)
