Trash or crysalized moisture?

I'm having a weird problem now. When I start to hose on a medium to a wet coat of anything whether it be base or clear I now have what looks like little specs of trash. I have been told that moisture can crystalize and cause this also.

If I keep the spray down to like a very thin tack coat I have very little of this going on.

Anybody else ever experienced this? It's driving me crazy.

Don't know, never had the problem other than solvent popping from hosing it.I suppose moisture can frezze but there shouldn't be moisture in the line and I would guess if it's cold enough to start freezing the air it's way too cold to be painting. How about static buildup attracting dust and dirt?Makes a mess every time.

Rex, what do you do to keep static down? This could be the problem because it's started happening since it's gotten cold and the air is dry.

I use PPG's DX103 plastic cleaner, just mist it over the part before and after tacking and it dissappears.Do just the part though,if you do yourself, the booth, etc it wont work because you eliminate the +/- charge needed for it to work.Make sure you don't blow the part off again too because blowing off parts causes static, that's why you get zapped every once in a while when you touch or get close to the part you're blowing off.Wiping the part with a rag or tack cloth also creates static.DuPont has a rag to remove static but I haven't used it and some use glass cleaner or alcohol. The 103 has a very high alcohol content to it so wear your mask for large areas,it'll irritate your throat for a few minutes.Hope this cures it for you.

Not old catalyst. Didn't have the Dupont stuff around so I tried an alcohol and water dilution. It helped a great deal. Mostly just the usual dirt nibs now. I am going to see about getting the anti static tack rag though. Thanks for the help Rex.
