tri coat blends are easy. you just go about it in a different way than a regular blend. instead of each coat going further than the last, you reverse it and take your first coat out the furthest, then each coat closer. you usually need a little more area to do a tri coat blend, but with a small repair area you should be fine. hope this helps

First off, there's a not painter on the face of the earth that can blend a 3 stage paint the size of a dime successfully.

That being said if you do what the other poster said you'll end up with a bullseye.

(1)Blend out the groundcoat,(2) then groundcoat with the pearl mixed in it,(3) then pearl coat, (4)clear with pearl in it,(5) then plain clear on top. Blending out FURTHER with each coat

Steps 1,3 and 5 are the 3 stages of a tricoat. Steps 2 and 4 are optional but help the blend.

The Nexa/Autocolor paint manual actually has 7 steps for a 3 stage paint job but I'm to lazy to go look for it in my garage for the other 2 steps.

Just my .02 worth

Don't know if I agree with the way you would do your spotting of a tri-stage

The way you said it, is if you do a candy red over gold, and you do the first coat in the gold metallic and blend it out in a 15" area, then you do the candy in a 10" area, then your clearcoat in a 5" area...this would leave a big gold metallic ring around the candy red, plus your candy won't be covering all the spotted area?

You should always go 'bigger' on the next step to cover the previous color or coat.
