thank you for your reply ,new member ,you mentioned candys , could i use the silver bc/cc for base apply the translucent color from a ppg candy color to get ghost flames i desire? i was looking at using 500 clear base and a dbc base color thinned way down to create my ghost flames. what are your thoughts!

If the color is to remain silver candy won't ghost, you'll have to go with a pearl.Once you lay down a coat of candy you have a very defined color contrast. If you try to over clear or overreduce the candy there's a good chance it'll mottle and the only way to cure it is to add more coats which will darken it.Now,if you try it with an airbrush and outline the tape without filling in the whole area it may work.Experiment with different tints if you make it with 500,some tints are stronger than others so that will affect how much color to add and some colors just don't seem to want to cooperate.Making them this way gives a nice effect but you wont get the depth of using topcoat clear or HOKs candies.

PPG also has candies called Radiance 2. Have you ever used them Rex? If so how do they compare to HOK? I've used Radiance, and been very happy, but not sure how it compared to HOK.

Hey Austin.I haven't played with the Radiance line at all because they're singlestage based and they can get real thick fast.I've seen quite a few jobs done with them and they looked t!ts but I always thought HOK was the way to go there if you're going to use the topcoat clears for candy,HOK seemed to be a little thinner clear for this purpose since PPG had to get more compliant faster with the high solids. My understanding was the radiance was more of a dye than a tint and I see that as a huge problem for bleeding if you want to layer up a few different colors. This is just my outlook on it and I never used it so I could be way off base.

Rex, I just used Radiance 2 about a month ago your right it is a dye, not a regular toner. I used it in Global D895 clear base coat, and can be used in DBC500 as well. I can't compare it to HOK because I've never used HOK, but I haven't had any problems with it.

How's the depth compared to toners?I'd think it would come closer to the true candy depth than toners in 500.

The customer was very happy, it is alot "deeper" looking than a standard toner tri-stage. I was supprised it took so many coats of kandy to get the correct shade (applied 6 coats). The base colors were a light blue, with light violet flames, I drop shadowed the flames before applying 72723 radiance (red) kandy. Basically looked like a two tone burgandy when done, very nice. He is acually going to Daytona with it next week. I have digital camra pictures, but I don't have a way to post them. Plus I'm a painter I don't know squat about computers (it took me a month just to figure out how to get the pics from my camra to the computer
