two-tone, flat single stage

Hey there. Very new to the forum, still a novice at painting. I'm preparing to shoot a single-stage, flat two-tone urethane job on a motorcycle tank with the two colors separated with an eventual pinstripe (not a striper myeslf, so I'll cross that bridge when I get to it). My question: Will I be able to sand down the edge of the paint without ending up with a shine, or should I leave the hard edge and let the pinstripe smooth the transition between coats? Thanks.

you can knock some of it down w/ a tack cloth, but make sure you keep the edge down. don't build the paint up on the edges. the striper should be able to cover it. also, i'd paint my top color, and then mask off so that you're painting the side two tone second. this way the edge will be up and the stripe paint can rest in the little valley on the sides. if you're doing an oval on the sides of the tank, do the oval second.

good luck

Thanks for the reply. But after shooting the base, I decided to keep it a single color ... Hot Rod Flatz Carnival Red Pearl (it just looks too cool with all the curves). I am, however, looking for a good pinstriper to do just a touch of a design on the tank. Anybody near Sacramento?
