IVE PAINTED THIS BIKE BY THE TECH SHEETS GUIDE LINES,WITH ALL HOK MATERIALS.I BASE COATED THEN 2 COATS OF UC 35 CLEAR I BELIEVE THATS THE RIGHT NUMBER LET IT SET FOR 16 HRS. THEN SANDED IT THEN MIXED THE STRIPING ENAMAL PER THE DIRRECTIONS,REDUCED IT WITH RU311 BRUSHED IT ON LET IT SET FOR 5HRS. THEN PUT TWO MED WET COATS OF CLEAR AND THE COLOR BLED BAD.NOW AFTER THAT HAPPENED I GOT OUT MY BOOK CHEAP TRICKS AND SPECIAL F/X AND IT SAID TO AND SOME OF THE SAME CATELIST THAT WAS USED IN THE CLEAR TO KEEP THAT FROM HAPPENING BUT THE CAN SAID TO USE CATELIST ONLY IF YOU WASENT GOING TO CLEAR OVER IT . SO WHAT HAPPENED AND HOW DO I FIX IT...

Usally when i stripe using HOK i use the paint right out of the can. usally a little in to the stripping 15-20 minutes i add a couple of drops of reducer. how much did you reduce it?how heavy was your first coat of clear on top of the stripping enamel?what were the shop conditions? humidity can play a large roll. unfortunatly this is the part of custom painting that really sucks!

when adding a drop or two of catylist it really speeds things up when working with it.i have heard of this problem numerous times but luckily for me, unlucky for you, i have never had it happen to me. i am thinking your first coat of clear may have been too heavy. hopfully you have enough clear between your base and mid coats and your stripes so you can sand out the stripes with out wrecking whats under neath. when doing your stripes over you may want to add a couple of drops of catylist and go a little lighter on your first coat of clear you can always flow the clear out in the following coats. i hope this helped you good luck and let me know how you make out.

I MIXED IT IN A MEDICINE CUP OFF OF COUGH SYRUP WITH ABOUT A HALF OF THEMBLE FULL OF REDUCER, I SHOT A FOG COAT ON THEN A MED. WET COAT .I BELIEVE I DID GET TOO HEAVY ON THE MED. WET COAT SHOP COND. WERE ABOUT 75 I DONT THINK IT WAS THAT AND IT WASENT THE WHOLE SET JUST IN ABOUT 5 PLACES AND I THINK IT WILL SAND OUT FINE. BUT YOUR RIGHT IT SUCKS WHEN YOU GET TO THAT STAGE OF THE FINAL CLEAR COATS AND THAT HAPPENS.IM JUST WONDERING IF I NEED TO REDUCE IT OR ADD SOME CAT. AND IF SO HOW MUCH ALSO THE CAN SAYS TO LET IT SET FOR 2 TO 4 HRS. WHAT DO YOU THINK WOULD BE BEST,THANKS FOR YOUR HELP AND WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT. GENE

Gene, i never had to do it but try adding just a couple of drops of catylist and only add reducer when you need it (when the stripping enamel starts to become difficult to work with , thicken) Are you brushing or spraying it out of an air brush? i usally brush it and really dont reduce it unless it is absolutly necessary. Good luck
