Scott, Rex, ezrider,

I am about to incounter a big project and I have a very important question about UKB Brandywine. I was asked to paint a 2001 Full size Dodge Ram PU. The deep red is in very good paint condition considering I live in Alaska. He want to change the color to Kandy Brandywine reference #141. I have asked him not to do this but insists that I do it. My question is can I spray a gold base coat and 3 coats of UBK Barandywine, interclear it and then do the art work that he insists that I do on the brandywine. After the art work is completed spray another 2 coats of brandywine and put on a final clear? I know that kandies are transperant colors I just don't want to lose my art work. Also do HOK UKB spray similar to regular basecoats. I plan on painting the back of the cab and front of the bed before hitting the real work. Thanks,

I have only use the KBC paints a couple of times and I didn't do any graphics under the candy, so I really can't help you out too much here. If it was me, I would do the gold, do the graphics, then use the UK brandywine. This doesn't have the pearl in it, so the transparency is better, but doing a full size truck would be quite a project.
Best thing I would suggest is to do a test pattern. I would try the gold, the artwork, then the KBC candy. Even with using the KBC, I think you will be able to see the artwork just fine. Also, this way, once you get the candy done, you can clear and be done, instead of putting the candy on, interclear, atrwork, then finishing the candy. I don't know what type of artwork you plan on doing, flames, graphics, mural...but another possibility would be to candy, then clear, then resand the panels that have the artwork, then dust a couple coats of candy over the artwork, then reclear the panels.
Lot's of variables, but this should give you some ideas to go by.

Here is a step by step example of some graphics under the UK Brandywine. Don't know if this will help you any or not...probably not?!

Scott,

Thanks. I am going to purchase a couple of sign blanks and practice on those. All the graphics are going to be freehanded. It will have a up-to-date style biomechanical theme with some Kandy Burple highlights. I think this would look good with the Brandywine. If you have another color that would look great with Brandywine please let me know.

Thanks again,
