Under Hood Paint

I have a small gig where I need to paint the ABS plastic fuel rail covers on a Z06 Corvette.

Question(s)
1. Do I need a spacial heat additive for the primer, base and clearcoat?
2. Will I need to use an adhesion promoter?

I primed mine with epoxy primer so it would take out most of the texture. Then I just painted them with normal bc/cc type paint.

If you are just painting over the plastic, yes, you will need an adhesion promoter. Especially since you can't sand them because they are textured.

Good luck!

Thanks Scott-
The client doesn't want the texture at all. As this is a continous learning process for me... what is epoxy primer?

Epoxy primer is a hi-build primer that you will need to add hardener to the primer along in most cases reducer.

By the way, do you have the fuel rail covers? I have a spare set, I'll sell you.
Or, his he supplying the covers?

By the way, attached is another set that I did with lightning. These are also 'smoothed'.
I believe you can buy them already smoothed now. Plan on priming and sanding twice.

Thanks much Scott for the feedback and reference. Yes my client has a second set. The original set (which is what I will be painting) was red but didn't match the red on his Vette. Even though they rarely see the sun- they seemed to be somewhat faded.

No problem...
probably Torch Red if it's a bright solid red.
Needs to be a basecoat/clearcoat.
So prime, sand, reprime, sand, spray in a white sealer (1-2 coats) Red, then clear. Wetsand and buff.
