Urethane enamel & Acrylic Enamel ???

Hi Folks,
I recently did a job where I had to lay a turquoise base over HOK cobalt blue candy. The turquoise color was mixed using Dupont ACRYLIC enamel and some green HOK URETHANE enamel. It seemed to mix well, shot well, adhered fine, and no problems with the clearcoat, to date.
I'm just wondrin if mixing acrylic enamel paints and urethane enamel paints is asking for trouble.
The customer is very happy and there's been no problems yet.
Any opinions re mixing urethane and acrylic enamels?

Thanks,
Phil

I use a PPG Acrylic Urethane Enamel at work to paint molded plastic parts. As long as it mixed well I don't see a problem.

Hi Coolhand,
I'm curious if anyone has ever mixed urethane enamel and acrylic enamel for a paint job and if there's any kind of problems that might arise from mixing the two paints?
Anyone?
Thanks,
Phil

I've never done it but Im curious, how old is the paint from the first time you did it. As you say, no problems. Im sure the manufacturers would say not to do it, but custom painters usually ignore them and go ahead and experiment. If I ever have the occasion I will try it on a test panel. Al

Hi Al,
The job I did was on a HD, the turquoise was sprayed in the teardrop area, secondary color. I did this job last year and I just talked with the guy recently and he loves the paint so nothing yet. On the other message board, I posted a pic of MY paint and that turquoise strip down the fender is the same mix! It better not cause any problems. LOL
