use solvent guns for water-based paints?

Hi all,
I'm getting ready to get into painting, and am considering buying several Sata HVLP guns to start with. However, I've read that the industry is going to solvent-free product in a couple years. I've also read that guns used for solvent-based paints cannot be used for water-based product, even after proper cleaning, due to contamination issues. Is that true? I don't want to drop $1500 on guns to have to throw them away in 2 years. Should I buy cheaper guns till then?
Thanks for the advice, this site is awesome!!

if a gun has never been used for uro's it's no problem..

hwever..if you use uro's in a gun and want to switch to water based or waterborne paint..clean the gun thouroughly with reducer or laquer thinner,
then hot soapy water..clear water, then denauterd alcohol..no trouble.

I use Auto Air Colors exclusively...good stuff.
