USING CONTACT PAPER INSTEAD OF TAPE

You can eliminate all the time spent masking off your flames or graphics by using contact paper(I've heard it called shelving paper too) and drawing out you're design on it before you place it on your car, bike whatever your painting. I've used it for doing chameleon (green to purple)flames and also some hawaiin type flowers on this dunebuggy I own. I did ghost flames with it as well on this bike I own and am about to go off again on this Ford explorer with some more flames. I've tried laying design with tape but it's too time consuming. With this stuff all you have to do is take the time to draw out the design on the paper, cut it out using a razor or hobby knife and place it on your car where you want it. Most of the stuff you can get from an arts store depending on location and most wal-marts and Kmarts carry it as well. If your doing a hood or door panels get the roll that is 3 ft or the short one and double it up. If someone does use this method be carefull in pulling it up when finishing painting not to pull paint with it you can go over the edges with a hobby knife lightly and it comes off great. Later

Hey Scotty,
I'm assuming you're using the clear contact paper. What levels of tack does it come in?I used contact paper a while ago for something totally unrelated and remember it being too sticky where it was barely repositionable.Paint lift would also be a concern.Have you ran into any of these problems?I'm not a big fan of frisket film,I find it difficult to work with when doing fine arts and mural work and am looking for a replacement.Have you ever used automask?
How much on average are you paying for the roll of contact paper?
Any feedback will be much appreciated.Thanx in advance..
