can anyone tell me how to put vinyl decals and clear over them? do i put them straight over clear and reclear, or do i need to sand clear , put decals then reclear, or what???
I deleted the other posts to cut down on repetition but here was my reply:
I don't like putting them over basecoat so wait until the clear has dried and sand it for the reclear,or if it's original paint just sand it.Mix up a drop or 2 of liquid soap in water and wet the surface and back of the decal so it wont stick as soon as you put it on.Get it in position and squeegy out all the water so the glue will hold. Then I take a rag soaked in water to clean all the soap off the paint and stick it in the sun for a few hours to let the glue bite in.Then take a white scotchbrite and lightly wet scuff over the decal. These pads have soap in them so you need to wipe it off too. When it's dry clear it.If you want to lose the edge it'll take quite a few applications.
I did forget to say some decals bubble but I don't know if it's a decal thing or the glue just takes longer to bite in.I don't like to go right over basecoat because if you get in a hurry you can trap solvents and cause it to bubble.
I simply put my decals right on the base and then clear over them. You'll have an "edge" when you're done clearing that might need a second session of clear if you want it smooth as glass - - Be wary of cheap vinyl - -Bones!~
