Hey all. I came here looking to learn about the different paint options and what they are such as pearls, ghost, candy and such. I have 2 sportbikes 1 of which is painted black with metal flakes in it. I want my other bike painted like a black cherry color.

I dont know if it is a candy color, but I know I want it to sparkle. Any suggestions on how to get that color? There are many different takes on black cherry...but the color im looking for is like this scion...click it to make it larger.

Any suggestions on how to get that color? They call it Black Cherry pearl. I want that shade but definately some sparkle to it..like a candy color. Thanks!

spray black base. spray as big or as little of flake you want. then spray the entire thing w/ brandy candy wine then clear coat.

if you don't want to play w/ the candi colors, then get some red flake and add it to your black. or you could get some red pearl and add it to your black.

there are many different ways do do things and the best way is just experement.

Thanks for the quick response. I failed to mention that I wont be painting my bike...but will have someone else do it. I'm just learning about the different options and the effect they will have on the color. I just want it to be the color I have in mind.

I hear alot about pearl colors...will that make it shine or "sparkle" like I want? And before I decided on a cand paint...I was considering metal flake. The guy who painted our other bike put chrome flakes in with the clear coat...is chrome the color I would have as the metal flake or would the red flake added to the black look better? Thanks for the opinions!

here is my tast. i'd put down chrome flake and then cover it w/ red candi. that will give you so much depth. the bike will be black w/ red sparkles.

see the flake in the flames?

just have them add half as much flake over a black base and mix the flake in w/ the red kandi.

remember you can go as big or as little as you want w/ the flake. if you go w/ pearl it will be even more subltle.

you could also go to an auto shop that sells paint and ask to see the paint charts.

they'll ask you what kind of car it is, just tell them that you want to pick out a color that could be sprayed on your cycle. so you don't have any certain type other than black cherry.

napa- has martin senior paints
o'reilies- has dupont

there are others also, but those are what i have around here
if you can find a House of color dealer, you can check there charts as well.

I do love that paint job in that link you posted. So, I could get that scion color that I love and have that sprayed over the chrome flakes and it will have that same effect to where it has that depth and sparkle? Cuz, I love that photo and thats kinda what I had in mind. :) Thanks for all the input!

ya, i'd put down the big flake w/ silver basecoat, then get some brandi kandi whine and mix a little cobalt blue kandi to it. shoot it over the base. this would give you a close color to that i think. it looks a little red-purpley to me.

definitly dooable

you mean a 1.4 tip. i've shot some pretty big flake out of mine, but i had to shake it every once in a while. the flake over blackwould give you a black look w/ a purpley shimmer.
