Wax, grease remover question

I know. I haven't even waited for the answer to my first question (think I found it waaaay back in the posts on page 13 or 14 tho).

I use either Goo Gone or Citro-Sol (citrus based solvent) to remove wax from my snowboards and skis so I have a constant supply of the stuff. Would this work to remove grease and wax before I start sanding?

Thought I'd ask.

If you are wetsanding to prep for the paint I wouldnt bother with the removers until you are done. Try putting a few drops of liquid soap in the water. It acts as a lubricant. When you are done wetsanding wipe it all down with wax and grease remover.
The products you mentioned will probably react with the paint and you can end up with a lot of problems. Your best bet is to get some from the store you are getting the paint from.

Actually Twisted, You should use a degreaser and wax remover before you start sanding. This way if the part has some contamination on it you're not grinding it further into the paint. This used to happen to me every once and a while. Out of 100 times, 99 of them you won't have a problem, but that one will kick you *** ! You should take all parts that you get from your customer whether they are bare metal or not, and wash them with warm water and soap (one the leaves no residue) then blow them dry, then use grease and wax remover prior to sanding and then again after sanding. And beware of and customers that have started the sanding and body work for you -- Total Nightmare!!! --- Bones!~

I take most of my jobs to a sand blaster. I like starting with bare metal. I have not had a problem with the jobs I have wetsanded the original paint, but like you said it that one that gets you. I will probably start degreesing before sanding from now on.
Still learning after all these years. Simply amazing.

I know exactly what you mean Bones, been bit at one time or another about everything you said.If you don't solvent wipe it first at least wash it with a strong mix of Dawn and let it sit and soak in good, this stuff is close to stripper for wax and light oils.

The primary ingredient for most citrus based cleaners is orange oil. So I would assume that you would want to shy away from that. Just the engineer in me peeking out.
